I am originally from the North Shore. Cutting hair is in my blood. My mom is a hair dresser and my great grandfather was a barber. My family house had a designated area equipped with all the goods of a hair salon. Every Sunday I would sit on the stairs and watch my mom while she set my grandmother’s hair in rollers. Then my mom would tease her hair and comb it out. The process was extensive and the final product was a form of art. My mom is definitely a master at roller sets!
Professionally I first started off in 1991 working for a locally owned chain of hair salons. As much as I liked the “salon” business, I was always drawn to cutting and shaping short hair. Five years forward I enrolled in barber school. Barbering is truly a different train of thought. The techniques are classic. Once my training was complete I became a “licensed barber”. Not much has changed in the barbering world over the last 100 years. Men’s hair styles change with the times but the basic barbering techniques enable us to keep up with the latest styles. Having cosmetology training along with barbering allows me to fuse the techniques to create great modern and stylish hair cuts. I truly enjoy my work! When I am not working at the barbershop I spend my time practicing yoga, hiking, skiing, cooking, going to the beach and hanging out with my dog.

I’m originally from Andover and I’ve been cutting hair for ten years, nearly all that time here in the South End. Since partnering with Christina in owning and operating the Barbershop, I’ve been able to indulge in wearing a lot of other “hats” that often come with business ownership and cutting hair: therapist, life coach, case managers, headhunter, yenta, medium, and most importantly, a friend and a good listener. You could say that a little of all of these “hats,” along with expert haircutting skills, go into what makes up a great barber! That, and a load of free advice! Christina agrees when I say it’s a multi-task job, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. It's why we do what we do. That, and bringing a sense of “yesterday” to this bustling, modern community of the South End. I respect the
importance of a well-trimmed head of hair for that crucial first or second job interview, or just because you want something “fresh and new” to reinforce the positive changes in your life. I like having a good balance in life.
So, while I “work hard” to give you that perfect cut, I also like to “play hard” and indulge the creature comforts of the neighborhood. Check out CODA for their bleu-cheese burger, ordered rare. Trust me, it might sound gnarly but it’s awesome! When I need a massage, I head over to Benjamin Brantley at 209 Columbus Avenue or the guys over at South End Health at 520 Columbus Avenue (www.southendhealth.com). When it's acupuncture I need, you’ll find me at Everyone’s Acupuncture at 565 Boylston street (www.everyonesacupuncture.com). You can’t go wrong with the awesome donuts at Mike+Patti's Restaurant in Bay Village. Also, you can't ignore the lemon bars and pina colada muffins at Appleton Bakery and Café (at the corner of Appleton and Dartmouth Street). See? A lot of free advice and street-side resources already! It's clients like you that can fast become friends of Barbershop Deluxe and I look forward to your next cut.

I came into the barbering game later than most but it was through a series of events that led me here. I've always been involved in the design field and barbering felt like a logical extension of that. I'm a visual person and I keep up on current trends. I can do everything from traditional to edgy while keeping in mind the client's needs and what suits them best. I grew up on Lake Champlain in northern Vermont and then moved to the central coast of California before settling in Boston. I like the beach, motorcycles, skiing, architecture, landscaping, good food, the gym, movies, cold beer and single malt scotch. Come in for a haircut - I'll make you look good! |

I’m originally from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and I’ve worked as a barber for several years. When I’m not working at the Barbershop Deluxe, I dedicate a lot of my time to music, but I can also always be found playing sports, going to the movies, or dining out as well. |

Albert Desisto, barber
I've been hairstyling for 28 years and I love it. I have a Master Barber license as well as a Class 1 Cosmetology licence. I enjoy creating individual looks for my clients and take full advantage of my skills in razor cutting, clipper, shears, and hair coloring. I am not new to the South End, having worked for another barber shop in the neighborhood. I took some time off but now I'm very excited to be joining the crew at Barbershop Deluxe! I hope to see both old and new clients alike. So come on in, get in my chair and let's do your hair! My photo was taken in Bryce Canyon, UT. Southern Utah, along with Las Vegas, are my favorite places to vacation.
